Sam Stosur to become first Australian woman's Roland Garros champion since 1973?

June 4th 2010 09:41
Sam Stosur has one hand on the Roland Garros championship after defeating Jelena Jankovic 6-1 6-2 in emphatic style. In my opinion, while Schiavone is a solid player, she lacks a real killer shot and this will be her undoing. She thrives on her opponent having an "off" day and while she will always be a top 30 player, she will never be a top 10 player as she just doesn't have the artillery to get there.

Sam Stosur has a powerful forehand, a strong backhand and a killer serve. She has all the makings of a Grand Slam winner and could become the first Australian woman to win a Grand Slam at Roland Garros since Margaret Court in 1973. That's 37 years ago, 11 before Stosur was even born.

But history is ready to be written tomorrow night Australia's time. If she plays her best and doesn't feel the nerves, she should win 6-3 6-4 in a comfortable straight sets victory.

GO SAM!!!
